Stupid Is As Stupid Does

Mali will not close its border with neighboring Guinea after a two-year-old girl infected with Ebola was brought across the frontier by her grandmother and died in Mali this week, President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said on Saturday.
The girl travelled hundreds of kilometers through Mali - including a stop in the capital Bamako - on public transport, potentially exposing many people to the virus, before she died in the western town of Kayes on Friday.
Keita said that the incident showed it was impossible to completely seal his country off from Ebola in neighboring Guinea but said he remained calm as the girl's journey and potential contacts had already been traced.
"Guinea is Mali's neighbor. We have a shared border that we did not close and we will not close," he told France's RFI radio station.
Land-locked Mali relies on the ports of neighboring Senegal, Guinea and Ivory Coast as gateways for much of its import needs. There is little accurate data but border closures by West African states trying to protect themselves from the epidemic have had a crippling effect on regional economies.
Keita said that the girl's grandmother had made a mistake by going to a funeral in Guinea, where more than 900 people have died of Ebola, and bringing her back.
"We are paying dearly for this," he said. "But I think this will cause more fear than anything else. The case was quickly contained."

Genius! Pure genius!

The president of the country can't see an epidemic with 10,000 officially acknowledged cases right across his nation's borders as a problem.

When you have a nation of idiots, they elect one. I'd point and throw stones, but we seem to have a similar affliction right here.

  1. Maybe he is simply rejecting the political stuntsmanship of claiming that they have closed the borders.

I am pretty certain they have no hope of closing their borders, despite what some of them have claimed.

    4900 dead and 9000 infected at present....could grow to 90,000 dead and 170,000 infected (that's a 20X growth rate)....by DECEMBER.

That would TRIPLE the number Americans killed in 10 years the Vietnam War (58,000)....in just the next 60 days!

But yet Barack-the-magic-dickhead still doesn't want to stop the flights!

    Pitchforks.....torches......rope.....

  3. Yeah, Fox is a bit behind my curve:

My forecast from over a month ago is either a week early or a week late, depending on whether we want to use the "official" stats, or the "probable actual" stats.
Officially, we were at 10K cases on about 10/20. Unofficially, we're already at 25-30K, total.

  4. Well, at this point in Mali they got it and no matter how firmly closed the barn door is today the horse which bolted yesterday is still running free.
Too little too late and now, hell people are just gonna die.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn imposes mandatory 21 day ebola quarantine.

Wow. First intelligent thing he has done since he's been in office.

And if MSLSD reported it, it must be true, right?

  6. *#£@ed either way
Shut the borders and people die of hunger, leave them open and people die of Ebola.

The firewall at this point looks to be the Suez canal and the Mediterranean Sea.
There may be closer lines worth trying to hold, for time if nothing else.
But it'll be in the taureg soon enough, and all over the saharah soon after, Morroco to Egypt. So far its infected settled peoples with a few travelers. An entire culture rooted in travel. Shot them crossing the med or we'll lose Europe.

Im suddenly reminded of the great wall in WWZ.

  7. And how do we know if they had contact with an ebola patient? Why, we ASK them ... but nicely, of course. Wouldn't want to give offense.

I wish they thought of this before. Want to stop illegal immigration? Just ASK them. Want to stop drug smuggling from Mexico? Just ASK them.

Golly, it all seems so simple! I wonder why they didn't think of it before?
